Those who used the old forum will remember the achievements system that was in place - however a similar system known as 'awards' has finally been added to these forums.

Awards are little badges that sit in your profile page for all to see but this time do not carry any type of point value. Currently there are only a few badges available however they will update automatically once you login if you have met the requirements needed to obtain them.

There will be secret awards this time that will display the icon to all users but the requirement details shown when hovered over will be displayed as a bunch of question marks for other user's - it's up to you if you wish to share the requirements for these awards with others if you get them but part of the fun is being one of few who actually has them.

To view your own awards, click on your username in the topic list or your profile link at the bottom of each of your posts.

To view other member's awards, simply click on their username anywhere it appears or the profile link at the bottom of each of their posts.

When you receive and award, a new page will popup showing you which award you have received, from here you can either go back to the previous page, go back to the forum index or view your awards.

It was funny when all the sudden, these achievements started to show up on my screen. I already new that you had brought the old system back.

Well, it isn't the old system because it's been recoded differently but yeah, it's the same concept. At first for user's who have obtained quite a few awards but haven't received them yet (like we did), all the achievements will popup at once but if you have only just reached the requirement then it wont seem as bad cos only 1 will popup instead.

What do you think of it though?

It's a nice little addition to the site, but it's just... hmm... Well... It doesn't really prove anything, it's just there... I really don't care for the system, but I know most of the people here would love it. I say we should keep it. As long as everyone is happy, I'm ok with it.

I realise that really there is no point to it but for fun - but the idea was that let's imagine Sonic Smash Brothers becomes a huge hit and lot's of people play it - the built in awards for that game could combine with your forum awards too. The awards could be for anything really.

There is no point value at the moment but there's nothing saying that there couldn't be in the future. If the right reason came up then why not...

But expect there to be lots more awards on offer compared to the last forum.

We value girls very much in a forum such as this (seeing as how we don't get many), even so we give them an award for it.

I guess we could have the awards in the mini profile - but the more you have the more difficult it would be to display them all - unless I just added a dropdown box similar to that shown at the top of the page for the status updates and when you wanna view that user's awards, you can click it.

Yeah, I was just joking around... but that sounds like a pretty nifty idea. Alternatively, they could be below the post, where there is more space.

Good idea but there would way too many in threads that have a lot of posts. Imagine those who double/triple post, they would be all over the place.

I think the mini profile is a great idea though and should be user prompted - as in you have to request it to appear by clicking on a link or something. It wouldn't be too hard i don't think.
