You may remember in my last blog that I wrote about supporting the underdogs in the gaming world, the developers who don't get the big lump sum cash amounts to help build the best games in the world and the guys who ultimately have their products chucked to the bargain bin faster then Activision can announce the next Call of Duty'esc merchandise, You see the times that I have been awake and have had the time to play recently, I have been choosing to play games that most people wouldn't even dare touch, or games that would tend to have a niche audience only appealing to certain masses. None could be truer then the fact I recently started not only uDraw which in my opinion is absolutely fantastic and will no doubt help any budding artist out, but also Space Chimps which comes from the guys who produced the most awesomly amazing awesome game you could ever possibly plan to play...Jumper!. I have held off playing Space Chimps for some time seeing as I knew the background of the developers and knew that they hadn't created anything worthwhile since they first started up, plus the fact that they also haven't created a game since 2008 doesn't really help matters. I didn't really know what to expect from the title, I was expecting the gameplay to be a glitchy mess, the combat to be flawed and the level design and graphics to be awful. In fairness though all of the above didn't turn out to be and I was actually quite pleasantly surprised at how the title came out. Sure it's not as great as anything Disney produced, but what it does bring to the table is something that actually resembles the movie well from what I can tell. Never seeing the movies I honestly cannot comment. So by buying these products you are hopefully helping the smaller devs, build better teams, produce better resources and ultimately games and help secure them some better financial backing in the future. At the end of the day it is and always will be the smaller devs who come up with the better ideas and implementation for games, you just need to help them fund the project so it can turn out the best it can do. As for now, I must shoot as I have a dinner date with Dora the Explorer followed by a dance off. Yes time for some Nickelodeon Dance.
