If you are familiar with the Battlefield franchise, then you will know that Battlefield 2 brought some of the most intense, beautiful maps ever created for a FPS. Why is this important? Today, in an official blog, lead designer Niklas Fegraeus announced that limited edition pre-orderees for Battlefield 3 will receive the Back to Karkand DLC for free, which brings four maps from BF2. Fegraeus did not announce whether or not this would be the only item for the limited edition, but don't be surprised if you hear more and more limited edition bonuses announced in the next few months.

Itís pretty simple, really. These are evidently some of the very best maps we have ever built. We have unquestionable data and feedback from the community saying so.

yup, it's a shame that people often can't appreciate great map design and its impact to gaming experience over flashy animations or character models...

Also, being that interactive (destructible) enviropments the complexity of keeping them fun and balanced wether they remain in good shape or totally destroyed sure requires lots of work.

I might, for once, be picking the LE tho.
