With an American economy still trying to regather itself from rock bottom, gaming, and Activision in this case, have experienced massive layoffs. One of the biggest juggernauts in gaming history, Guitar Hero, experienced these layoffs, and ultimately a shutdown of series. In a recent interview though, Activision VP of developer relations and acquisitions Dan Winters said, Actually, just to clarify, we're just putting Guitar Hero on hiatus; we're not ending it. We're releasing products out of the vault. We'll continue to sustain the channel; the brand won't go away. We're just not making a new one for next year; that's all.

A year away from Guitar Hero has proven smart for Activision as the franchise was selling fewer and fewer copies, but the question is if the public will be ready for another game in 2012 (at the earliest)?

i used to be a huge GH fan (just check my gamercard)... after 3 it just started going downhill from there.
everything was far too easy and the song lists just got worse.
i'm actually glad that they quit making them.
it was good while it lasted and then overstayed its welcome.

just leave it buried.

GH ended when RB started, that's it.

Anything else's been just big A triying to milk out an IP even the OG guys not being in charge anymore.

I even think GH2 was a letdown as some tracks were COVERS. You can't relate to mr.x's cover when it tries to make up for kiss or danzig!

Rock Band came out after GH3, and the tracks were covers because they were too cheap to get the rights to the songs.
most of the covers did sound terrible, but it was really the guitar that mattered.

as for rock band, i'm pretty good at it as well (gamercard)... but ive actually always hated it. cant stand the rectangle notes.

Well, I found myself pretty comfy with RB (after GH1 and 2) I suppose it's just matter of personal tastes.
I have to admit even though Guitar Hero did saturate the market, i would be please to see another one at the end of the year or next year. They were kinda fun to blast out occassionally. They have to bring back DJ Hero for sure though.

Best Original IP 2009, Best of E3 2009 and 9 other best of awards in 09, Then the game got better last year only to be cancelled.

DJ Hero was a fantastic game and actually made you feel like you was playing along to a song instead of just tapping buttons.
