For a while now here at Xbox Resource we have been on a rollercoaster regarding our visitors, sometimes the site is pretty much empty with not much going on, sometimes it's booming and too much is going on... well for the latter it tends to cause problems due to the fact that we are on shared hosting - this means the resources this site uses to run need to be shared out equally, and if we are taking up all of those resources then it is having a detremental effect on other paying customers.

For a while now I have been thinking of the best way to go about expanding the site and being able to cope with any or all traffic that comes our way... who remembers our tiny link on SentUAMessage which caused us to reach our highest figures yet and crashed the site... and if anyone has been paying attention lately, the worlds largest Xbox Gamercard Generating site, MyGamerCard.net, has decided to quit - a month after we start our own Gamercard service... which has meant we have had a lot more members come this way and a lot of traffic - put it this way we are alloted 7% CPU Usage on our server, yesterday alone we nearly reached 9% usage.

As you can see from this photo below, which was taken half way through the 26th of Feb, we had a huge spike in activity

xboxresource.com/publicimages/...

So therefore the choice has been made to switch to a new server that will hopefully keep us afloat and deal with this kind of thing happening again. However since this site is purely at the moment just a hobby if you like... i.e we aren't affiliated with Xbox etc, the server which I have moved to isn't the greatest as that would cost to much and I don't make that much money as it is either from this site or personally, and asking you guys to donate for something like that would seem kind of cheeky... I get just as much thrill out of running and designing this place as some of you do using it. But by all means donate if you wish, I know we have had a few small donations which I thankyou wholeheartedly for.

So in that respect we should be switching servers pretty soon if all goes to plan so there may be a period of downtime whilst the transition happens, this includes the mobile version of the site as well as the gamercards. I just thought I would give you guys the heads up before you wonder where we went.

We will still reside at XboxResource.com it will just be a matter of waiting til we're back online. Hopefully you might see an improvement in service after the swap also.

I will keep you all updated on the matter anyway so keep checking back here, I will also let you know when the transition is about to begin.

Thankyou to all our members who make Xbox Resource what it is, but it's time we grew... together!

...wich reminds me that IT IS A SHAME that you ain't affiliated officially to xbox.

I've said it before and 'll say it again; this is ten times better than most of other xbox related sites out there, and has proved to be a reliable resource even in areas that official product site lacks (like being able to display a list of games with avatar awards, etc).

It'd be nice if you got paid at least to keep servers running with no additional costs. It feels sad that you are spending money doing what others get paid for.

Cheers.

I used to visit TrueAchievements for gaming news, now I only use it for achievement help if I get stuck. Xbox Resource is far better news wise. I might not comment as often as some people, but I do visit the site most days and it is fantastic. If I could afford then I would donate due to the awesome service. The downtime will be sad but required. Keep up the great work mate, same for all who write the great articles, always fun to read :D

Also we have certainly come a long way as a site and as a community here's to another good year for Xbox Resource!

hearing you guys say those things really makes it all worthwhile... No one has any idea how many hours i have devoted to this site (except maybe my ex) trying to implement new features and keep everything running smoothly... Its a lot to do solo... I know you guys contribute a hell of a lot but still its me who does all the work behind the scenes.

Im not trying to outdo any sites and im not trying to offer anything better... Like ive always said i just want a nice community of gamers who get along, help one another and talk about similar interests. Where the admin and staff respect all members equally and are just as much willing to contribute as everyone else.

Since i make little to no money off the site it remains just a hobby for now... i take huge pride in this site and to see others appreciating it really warms me inside... Which is why i am forking out of my own pocket to keep us alive and i really hope it is worth it.

We hit 10.6% of our allowed 7% cpu usage so if our host doesnt hurry up setting the new server up then the site might be shut down until we either switch server or sort out the cause for all the cpu usage.

I am pretty confident that the gamercards are the cause so i am going to put some optimisation techniques to work tonight and hope we can survive til the switch... If not its a premature goodbye until the new server is ready.

But at the end of it all. Its worth it just for you guys... But lets see if we cant give it a proper go at getting bigger.

We all know how much effort you put into this site, as you said some more than others, and that you truly do love it. We all appreciate having a place like this where we can discuss games intellectuality and catch up on what's going on.

I'd like to take a moment to say 3 cheers for X2i AKA Dan :D Hip Hip..........

Also long live the XBR.
