For a while now here at Xbox Resource we have been on a rollercoaster regarding our visitors, sometimes the site is pretty much empty with not much going on, sometimes it's booming and too much is going on... well for the latter it tends to cause problems due to the fact that we are on shared hosting - this means the resources this site uses to run need to be shared out equally, and if we are taking up all of those resources then it is having a detremental effect on other paying customers.
For a while now I have been thinking of the best way to go about expanding the site and being able to cope with any or all traffic that comes our way... who remembers our tiny link on SentUAMessage which caused us to reach our highest figures yet and crashed the site... and if anyone has been paying attention lately, the worlds largest Xbox Gamercard Generating site, MyGamerCard.net, has decided to quit - a month after we start our own Gamercard service... which has meant we have had a lot more members come this way and a lot of traffic - put it this way we are alloted 7% CPU Usage on our server, yesterday alone we nearly reached 9% usage.
As you can see from this photo below, which was taken half way through the 26th of Feb, we had a huge spike in activity
So therefore the choice has been made to switch to a new server that will hopefully keep us afloat and deal with this kind of thing happening again. However since this site is purely at the moment just a hobby if you like... i.e we aren't affiliated with Xbox etc, the server which I have moved to isn't the greatest as that would cost to much and I don't make that much money as it is either from this site or personally, and asking you guys to donate for something like that would seem kind of cheeky... I get just as much thrill out of running and designing this place as some of you do using it. But by all means donate if you wish, I know we have had a few small donations which I thankyou wholeheartedly for.
So in that respect we should be switching servers pretty soon if all goes to plan so there may be a period of downtime whilst the transition happens, this includes the mobile version of the site as well as the gamercards. I just thought I would give you guys the heads up before you wonder where we went.
We will still reside at XboxResource.com it will just be a matter of waiting til we're back online. Hopefully you might see an improvement in service after the swap also.
I will keep you all updated on the matter anyway so keep checking back here, I will also let you know when the transition is about to begin.
Thankyou to all our members who make Xbox Resource what it is, but it's time we grew... together!
