There has been a new trailer released for Dead Island, a zombie survival game which was supposed to be released back in 2008 and was long presumed to have been cancelled. Developer Techland has released a statement regarding the game, which can be read below, and have also released some screenshots which can be found in our gallery here - xboxresource.com/gallery.php?t...

It is an open-ended game, centered on the challenge of survival on a zombie-infested island. The game uses a first-person perspective with RPG elements. However, the developers are claiming that the game will be far beyond a typical first-person shooter experience, mainly due to a bigger emphasis on melee combat, role-playing elements and a clear focus on story-telling.

Gameplay will feature a sandbox style gameplay on a tropical island. A zombie style story are massively influenced by George A Romero's movies, melee combat involving the ability to pick up almost anything and use it as a weapon, and will have multiple playable characters. Multiplayer will include 4 Player drop in/out Co-Op.

It will be released for PC, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3.

Considering how great this trailer is, and the hype surrounding it - the game can in no way live up to expectations. After a trailer like this, anything short of total immersion will be a disappointment. :P

I have to agree with Grumpy on this one. As awesome as the game looks, having 3 years to work in it and perfect it, I can only see being let down. But as a fan of zombies i will definitely have to keep an eye on this one.

In regards to the Trailer though I think it was very well made, even though it was backwards you still knew what was going on - and that part where the guy romantically puts the zombies arm round him as he has burst through the door, well it's not meant to be buyt it looked like it lol.

Seriously though this better retain it's four player co-op status because a lot of promising games like this have ditched it last minute... *cough Prototype*!

Looks as promising as it sounded time ago when it was announced. I'm sorry to be like that but it's more likely than the project was put into the freezer and took out now to bake it as Zombies are everywhere again (tv series, books...) than being in the works for so long.

Again, look what happened to games like Too Human with long dev time. Anyway, even sounding like a mix of left 4 dead and dead rising with RPG and melee touches like condemned as per melee or fallout-bordelands RPGish elements I would be looking forward it. God, I play and enjoy stuff like shellshock 2 so even if this ends up being a dissapointing pile of turd, I will end up buying it. Unless they top the chocolate cake with more dung like, the coop not making it to the final product.

BTW I ended up buying even protohype so...
