It's only been a couple months since the biggest entertainment release of all time, Call of Duty: Black Ops, but Activision is already gearing up for the release of Modern Warfare 3. The LA Times cited unnamed sources that said that Activision has recruited Sledgehammer Games, the studio currently working on another unannounced Call of Duty title, and Raven Software to help finish development of Modern Warfare 3 for release this November. Also reported is that Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward are teaming up together to work on the single-player portion of the game, while Raven Software is working on the online portion of the game.

This new announcement of Sledgehammer Games working on Modern Warfare 3 means that the Call of Duty - reportedly set in the future - game that they were working on is now on hold.

Is the series starting to turn into the Madden and Guitar Hero series? This announcement could mean very good things, or possibly horrible news. Only time will tell.

Agreed. CoD never evolved in any real way to begin with. The only jump was from CoD 3 to MW. Zombies is really the only redeeming factor for me and its not worth the $60, IMO. Unless IW can do something other than to expand (and with the original creators gone, by the way), then it'll be, as SteinlageT said, another Madden. The same thing, over and over and over.
