Now this is a rarity: Kinect games Kinect Sports and Joy Ride will be getting some free DLC. Kinect Sports' new DLC pack, called the 'Party Pack' just came out today, featuring new activities and some new achievements to grab.

Joy Ride's packs will come out sometime January 4th, which is a Chevrolet themed car pack. It's obvious advertising, but free is still free!

People don't seem excited about this... at all. I wonder wether it's cause Kinect dissapointed buyers or just that kinect users aren't the type of coming to teh internets to thanks and rant.

Someone @ Major Nelson wrote

How come Kinect sports gets free DLC with achievements, yet when Valve wanted to make L4D DLC free with achievements they were told they had to charge?

It's a question that's been puzzling quite a few people on the xbox.com forums, so an answer would be appreciated.

Were Valve fibbing?

Nah, I trust in Valve. The reason why the Kinect games would get free DLC is basically because they're made by Rare who are owned by Microsoft now. Microsoft don't follow their rules set out for other companies, so they can give stuff away free whenever. There'll be the odd time here or there where they'll allow it, but it's on very rare (no pun intended) occasions. From what I've gathered, it's mainly to do with filesize, etc.
