It is no secret that game developer Infinity Ward is working on Modern Warfare 3, but could it be coming earlier than we ever could have expected? In a quarterly call to investors and analysts, Activision let word slip that a Call of Duty FPS is scheduled to be released in 2011.

Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said,We will launch a new first-person action title during the back half of 2011. This was later confirmed by Activision COO Thomas Tippl after a widespread amount of questions hit Twitter, Facebook, and other various websites. Tippl said that Next year's Call of Duty will be a first-person shooter.

Is the Call of Duty franchise turning into the next Guitar Hero franchise with games pumping out every year or less? There has already been announced a third-person Call of Duty game being created by new Activision subsidiary, Sledgehammer Games. We know the Call of Duty games will sell based solely on the title, but is quality starting to be diminished by quantity for money sake? Time will tell in the upcoming months, as we know now a 2011 COD game is to be released.
