Microsoft today revealed that the third in the Gears of War
saga from EPIC Games has been delayed from April of 2011
to the Fall Holiday season
Executive Producer Rod Fergusson says that it was a business decision, not one relating to buggy gameplay. Rod had this to say:
I know fans are going to be disappointed with the new release date, but rest assured that this is a business decision between partners, and not a quality issue. Gears 3 was on track to be the most polished Gears of War game ever when it released in April, and this additional time allows us to polish it that much more before it hits shelves next fall. Next week we have a major multiplayer press visit at Epic HQ, and I'm really looking forward to the fans seeing and hearing about Gears 3 versus multiplayer for the first time. Lots more exciting news to come.
Essentially what this means is that the game would have no problem being released in April. In fact, even if it was still released in April it would be one of the most polished games ever released this generation. What this is is a cash-in decision made entirely by Microsoft. On the upside, at least that admit to it this time...
Worry not, Gears fans. The press event next week that Rod referred to is bound to heal some of the hard feelings. I, for one, am totally excited to see the first versus footage from what is guaranteed to be one of my favorite games and one of the best selling games of all time.
